Arbuckle Lake Results

Stop #3 of the Backyard Bassin Fall/Winter trail launched from the Guy Sandy ramp on beautiful Arbuckle Lake Sunday January 6th. Once again the weather was the main topic of the day. With temperatures rising into the upper 70's and very windy conditions, the lake was pretty tough for most anglers. Several pre tournament reports of monster bass up to 11+ pounds were being reported along with a few 30+ pound sacks being caught.

The father son team of Wayne Brown and Chad Brown from Ardmore, Ok won their second event of the season when they brought their five fish limit to the scales. They set a new Backyard Bassin Tournament Trail record with the 23.57 pound bag that was anchored by the Big Bass of the tournament, a very nice 8.92 pound black bass. The Browns were fishing custom made jigs by throwing them up onto shallow humps and working the bait down to deeper water. For all of their efforts the team took home $1,730.00.

Red Rutherford and Ronnie Morrison from Durant, Ok took second place honors at Arbuckle. They had two fish over five pounds to bring their total weight to 18.86 pounds. They were rewarded with a nice payday of $700.00!

Rounding out the top three places were Shawn Mote of Ardmore, Ok and Gus Duncan of Lone Grove, Ok. They only brought 3 fish to the scales, but those three weighed in at 12.94 pounds. Amongst the three fish was a nice kicker fish weighing 7.33 pounds. The team earned $425.00 for the day.

BuTi Custom Fishing Rods sponsored the flipping contest during the weigh in. This year all of the money donated during the flipping contest will be donated at the end of the tournament trail to the "Megan Boso Family Fund". This is a fund raising effort headed up by Mr. Herb Asche to help a family that lost a very close loved one over the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will accept donations all the way through the championship. Larry Wood and Royce Evans from Ardmore, Ok ended up in tie during the contest, The nice men from BuTi Rods awarded both competitors with new custom fishing rods.

All of the anglers were treated to homemade stew and cold beverages during the weigh-in. We look forward to seeing everyone at the final stop on Lake Eufaula January 20th 2008.
